Motivating students will be my ultimate challenge. Thankfully, I have the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF) to help develop my professional skills so that I am better prepared to handle the daily challenges that accompany this profession.

I discovered my passion for being in the classroom while still in high school. After graduating as valedectorian from Clear Creek High School in Evergreen, Colorado, I became the first of my family to attend college. I graduated summa cum laude from the Metropolitan State College of Denver with a BS in meteorology and went on to pursue a PhD in atmospheric science at Colorado State University. My plan was to teach meteorology until an unexpected family event pulled me away from school. When I chose to leave my studies to take care of my family, I realized that life is short. I want to pursue my true passion for teaching in a classroom before it’s too late.

A weather buff whose hobbies include cloud gazing, computer forecasting and occasional storm chasing, I love teaching about the science and math behind the weather. I worked as a community tutor for ten years and assistant taught at the undergraduate, high school, and middle school levels. I also spent two years as a student research assistant for the Winter Weather Group at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, where I collected and analyzed data to improve the
Weather Support to De-icing Decision Making System currently being used at airports around the nation.

I am a recipient of the Vern Nelson Scholarship, awarded to outstanding math education students. I hope to teach mathematics in a rural mountainous school to give small-town youth the tools necessary to succeed in the future job market as well as inspire them to think and act globally.
